The Hutchinson County soil survey names the Dallam-Urban land complex as mapped within Stinnett, which is one of the few direct town-level mappings available in this region. Dallam soils are deep, noncalcareous loamy soils, part of the Dallam-Dumas association along the Canadian River drainageways.
This is the same soil as Fritch. The survey makes no shrink and swell statements for it, or for any other Hutchinson County unit, which puts Stinnett among the easier ground we build on.
Easier ground does not mean no footings. Uplift is resisted by the footing's depth, diameter and anchorage, not by the soil's plasticity, and the wind here is the same wind as everywhere else on the plains.

Inch and three quarter hail in four minutes
On 1 May 2022 the National Weather Service logged measured hail of 1.75 inches and 1.50 inches at Stinnett between 7:59 and 8:03 pm. Four minutes, two measurements, both above the UL 2218 Class 2 test diameter.
That was the same evening Dalhart, Dumas, Hereford, Panhandle, Borger and Fritch all logged severe reports. One storm system, most of the Panhandle, in a single evening. It is a useful illustration of why a hail rating is a regional question rather than a local one.
